Live Wire #38
This Week's Top Ten
This week has been a bit chaotic, so I am a few days late on the weekly news update. Without further ado, here’s ten stories that caught my eye in the past week:
Trump’s oil grab is a big problem for the OPEC cartel (WSJ)
Meta advancing nuclear power for data centers across Ohio (Columbus Dispatch)
‘I had no electricity for six months’: U.S. families struggle with soaring energy prices (BBC)
Trump administration sues two California cities over natural gas bans (LA Times)
Trump’s pause on offshore wind power projects offers chance for a more honest energy debate (K.T.’s note: offshore wind projects notoriously overpromise and underdeliver — it’s high time for more robust economic and environmental impact assessments) (New York Sun)
Trump cuts to energy projects in blue states were unlawful, judge rules (NYT)
Utilities under pressure: 6 power sector trends to watch in 2026 (Utility Dive)
Trump’s first year back in office sees major oil and gas permit surge amid ‘drill, baby, drill’ push (Fox Business)
18 Trump energy, enviro officials to watch in 2026 (E&E News)
The Trump vs. Newsom energy showdown is just getting started (K.T.’s note: get the popcorn ready — this is going to get interesting) (Politico)
That’s all for now! Have a great weekend!
Electrically yours,
K.T.

Love this column!
On the topic of offshore wind, lets be clear that wind and solar have no place on the grid. Wind droughts happen on land and sea. And the sun sets daily as well. No sun and little or no wind means next to no wind and solar.
Not fit for purpose.
Declaring that the wind and solar transition is officially over. Worst public policy blunder ever.
10 to 15 trillion spent to get....WHAT?
