You are so right about the environmental pitfalls of mining. That’s why it’s absurd for a person to think they are being environmentally friendly by driving a 7,000 pound Rivian that has a 135kWh battery. You’d be more responsible driving a modestly sized ICE car that gets 35-40 MPG. Better yet, if your daily commute is less than 40 miles, buy a plug-in hybrid. Unfortunately we Americans are prone to super-sizing everything.
Policies makers in the name of expedience have forsaken truth and transparency. In face a lot of the climate alarmist and policy making has to do with industrial policy to catch up to China and many Asian nations. It is hard to compete when you competition idea of an environmental regulation is a waste pipeline to lakes and rivers. Unfortunately more bending will occur and as a result we will only get have ass results and all the cost.
Thank you. As your article notes, the environmental benefits of EVs are questionable. I recently rode a state-of-the-art electric bus in Los Angeles County. At higher speeds, the interior noise was similar to a diesel-powered bus. Virtue signaling is apparent.

Boggles the mind! Hybrids (plug-in or traditional) are the way to go!

Very good read. Yes, the estimate of EVs carbon footprint is at best an educated guess.
Here’s a piece on the EPAs mandate to push 69-72% of new cars to EVs or Plug in cars by 2032.

Great read. The EV industry now needs their own version of "There Will be Blood". Maybe DDL can play the lead role?
That would be something! TWBB is a GREAT film!
